Community

Throughout project assessment, review and development, the partnership will undertake a public consultation program to:

  • Provide information to build project awareness and understanding;
  • Provide opportunities for public input and information exchange;
  • Identify interested parties and project-related concerns;
  • Propose ways to avoid, minimize or compensate for project impacts; and
  • Demonstrate how public input has been incorporated into project design.

First Nations Engagement

The Pehonan Hydroelectric Project watershed is located within the traditional territory claimed by:
The James Smith Cree Nations which is made up of three bands:

  • James Smith Cree Nation 
  • Cumberland 100A First Nation/Peter Chapman Band
  • Chakastaypasin Band of the Cree

Pehonan First Nations Engagement program will:

  • Provide information to build project awareness and understanding;
  • Facilitate involvement in project assessment and review;
  • Allow for input regarding traditional values and ecological knowledge in the project area; and
  • Identify and follow-up on issues and concerns to avoid, minimize or compensate for project impacts.
