Throughout project assessment, review and development, the partnership will undertake a public consultation program to:
- Provide information to build project awareness and understanding;
- Provide opportunities for public input and information exchange;
- Identify interested parties and project-related concerns;
- Propose ways to avoid, minimize or compensate for project impacts; and
- Demonstrate how public input has been incorporated into project design.

The Pehonan Hydroelectric Project watershed is located within the traditional territory claimed by:
The James Smith Cree Nations which is made up of three bands:
- James Smith Cree Nation
- Cumberland 100A First Nation/Peter Chapman Band
- Chakastaypasin Band of the Cree
Pehonan First Nations Engagement program will:
- Provide information to build project awareness and understanding;
- Facilitate involvement in project assessment and review;
- Allow for input regarding traditional values and ecological knowledge in the project area; and
- Identify and follow-up on issues and concerns to avoid, minimize or compensate for project impacts.
